Group therapy can be a highly effective form of treatment, providing unique benefits that individual therapy may not offer. It creates a supportive environment where individuals can explore personal issues while receiving feedback and guidance. Here are some key advantages of participating in group therapy:

  • Learning from Others: Individuals can gain valuable insights and perspectives from others who are facing similar challenges, helping them feel less isolated and more understood.
  • Emotional Expression: Groups foster a supportive atmosphere where participants feel comfortable expressing their emotions in ways they might not in other settings, promoting emotional growth and healing.
  • Skill Development: Participants have a safe space to learn and practice new skills, such as coping strategies or communication techniques, within a supportive group dynamic.

What to Expect

CAPS provides a variety of groups and workshops to meet different needs. Some groups are more unstructured, giving members the freedom to explore their struggles and identities together, fostering healing and growth.

Others are more structured and focus on developing specific skills, such as improving coping mechanisms or enhancing communication abilities. These groups often feature semi-structured discussions, exercises, and activities designed to support personal development.

Depending on the specific group, sessions may be led by one or two therapists and typically include 4 to 10 members. While the format and focus of each group may vary, most meet weekly for 1 to 2 hours and continue for the duration of the semester.

All groups and workshops are free to currently enrolled students.
